A Lack of Spiders

Posted under Fly Tying

Spiders (of the traditional and north country variety), I’ve not fished them for quite a while (probably due to the fact that I’ve spent less and less time on the main stem over the past few seasons, and more and more time living up on the small streams). Since BFFI, however (and after having bought a few new materials as well as chatting a little about the traditional patterns throughout the day), it’s time I cracked open my spider box once again before the frosts hit us properly and the grayling go deep.

Simple and sparse, I love tying spiders, and they’re great fun to fish with too. I only tend to use a handful of patterns, but I find these cover a lot of situations, and they’re loved by both trout and grayling alike.

As you know G, I love fishing the spider patterns; just wish I could tie them as well as you do!
