Monnow Social: 2009

Amazing, awesome, funny, honoured, privileged, humbled, drunk, wild trout…these are just a few words to explain the weekend and it’s participants; my eternal thanks to you all.

For now (and after four consecutive days spent fishing and camping) I am absolutely shattered and in desperate need of sleep, so I’m off to bed. In the mean time, here’s a little taster for you…more pictures and a report to follow…zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…

All Work and No Play…

It seems I’ve been neglecting all you FFISW-ites of late. The blame for this lies within a mixture of work, work, and more work.

To make amends for my lack of writing lately, I’ve taken it upon myself to force myself away for four full days of fishing (yes I really care about you all that much). It’s a hard life.

This weekend will see the hallowed and annual Monnow Social event taking place, and anyone who has attended one of these now near-holy events will tell you just how amazing they are. Maybe the over zealousness or love for this weekend stems from an unhealthy amount of drinking/fishing. I don’t know. But they really are THAT good.

The lucky attendees start rolling in to the camp-site (complete with adjoining river) on Friday PM, and this is where the excitement really begins. To quote a wise man’s recent words – “There will be the usual Friday afternoon meet up, chat, polite beer or three and then somebody will spot a rising fish next to the campsite, everybody will look shifty for a while until somebody appears with a rod and gets skunked in front of the hooting crowd.”

Before the Social takes place however, I’ll be preparing myself with a days fishing on another small stream in Wales followed by a nightly stay at a local B&B, and then a fantastic ‘bonus day’ within the Monnow catchment…all this before the main event even takes places. I feel rather lucky indeed.

A full report (and no doubt a wheel-barrow amount of photos) to follow. See you all next week!
