Welcome to 2014 and BFFI

Well, you might say it’s been a little while since my last post; I’d agree, and then some!

A lot has changed in the last year, but all for the better. I’ve continued to be pretty damn busy with guiding, fly orders are flying out of the door faster than I can say “high quality flies by Gareth Lewis Fly Fishing”, and I now actually have some spare time thanks to a change of day jobs; and boy, am I thankful for the latter as 2013 nearly killed me.

So, now with a fresher outlook on things, I’m planning on making 2014 my year; and I can feel things are gonna be good!

Thanks to a year full of rain and high river levels, fishing has been a little impossible, but tying has been fantastic. I was chuffed to bits to have been invited back to this year’s British Fly Fair International for my third year in a row, and what a show this year’s was. Truly fantastic, and the ‘buzz’ that seemed to permeate the show was simply electric.

As always, it was fantastic to meet-up with old friends, meet a host of new ones, and chat to all the enthusiastic fly tiers who came by and said Hi. Guys, to all of you, thank you for popping by for a chat, it was fantastic to meet you all. To Bridgette, Steve, Paul, Neil and all of the fantastic people who make BFFI one of the top fly fishing/tying events in the county, a huge thank you! Unfortunately, as usual, I ended up being overtaken by tying at the show, so (again) I didn’t get chance to take many photos. However, there are a number of photos available, both on Facebook and on my good friend, Dai Jones’s, fantastic blog.

I did manage take a few photos of the flies I tied at the event and, it seemed I was a little on the unproductive side…although I blame all the freebies I gave away! See the below photos for some of the patterns hat were tied and discussed at this year’s BFFI.

Lastly, the wonderful Monnow Rivers Association are currently running their annual auction, whereby, all proceeds raised go straight back into the rivers. The MRA are a truly fantastic association, with the waters they manage being very dear to my heart. I’ll be donating two dozen flies, complete with fly box, to this year’s auction, full details for which can viewed by clicking here. For  full information on the entire auction lots, simply click here.

So, here’s to 2014! It’s going to be a cracker and, once these rains take their exit, the fishing is going to be good!
