Playing With Caddis – The Caddis With No Name
With the rains still playing havoc with the UK, the likelihood of hitting the river this weekend is slim, however, I do still hope. Misplaced hope, maybe, but hope nonetheless.
My thoughts are now locked on to the coming trout season and, more importantly, to the long, warm summer evenings which I’ll spend creeping around my local small stream. Caddis hatches can be monumental; filling the air, crawling up wader legs, and generally driving any self-respecting trout crazy. The trout, well, they will gorge.
The below pattern is a play on numerous designs, but has been enjoyed by many a trout. A buoyant pattern, and one which finds itself at home on both smooth glides and broken riffles. Tied on the Partridge Patriot Fine Dry (SLD), size #14, the pattern is a winner and has worked well for me for over a decade.
Hook: Partridge Patriot Fine Dry (SLD), size #14
Body: Wapsi Rabbit, brown
Under Wing: 3x CDC Hackle, natural
Over Wing: Deer Hair, coastal
Thorax: Fox Squirrel, natural
