Midges!!! With the Smallstreams.com Fly Swap

Just before Christmas, myself and a number of other midge-obsessed fly tiers got involved in an annual fly-swap over at the Smallstreams.com forum; not your usual fly swap mind you, as you could probably fit all the flies I’d received onto a postage stamp!

This particular fly-swap was to focus on midges, with a dozen or so midges of the same pattern required from each tier, resulting in the finished delivery made up of a fantastic range of emergers, pupa, midge clusters, spinners, as well as a few nice variations on the theme.

Fly-swaps really help to push your tying, especially in terms of consistency, as you’ll start to notice that after the first two or three patterns are out of the way, your batch consistency will be pulled tighter and tighter together; skills you’ll need if you’re planning on tying for clients or a fly-swap, and perfect if you’re trying to learn a brand new pattern.

Fantastic tying skills, and fantastic patterns one and all, and I’m always excited at the prospect of getting my hands on a few new midge patterns! All patterns listed below in alphabetical order.
